The Portland Girl, a new locally owned and operated sugaring and skincare studio, mixes ancient beauty practices with modern skincare treatments.
The Portland Girl features sugaring, instead of waxing. The all natural, three ingredient sugaring paste leaves skin smooth and hairless.
“Sugaring is an ancient form of hair removal that uses a paste made of sugar, lemon, and water, with a soft, warm, “honey-like” texture. The paste is placed on your skin and then “flicked” off,” says co-founder Jessica Daniels.
Sugaring also results in fewer ingrown hairs and permanency, “which means over time, your hair growth will be minimized,” explains co-founder and master Indie Esthetician, Anna Long-Stokes.
Long-Stokes and Daniels are committed to using whole ingredients in their facials, store products, and sugars. “We only use products that pass our high standards. That includes no parabens, sulfates, phthalates and fake perfumes, which are linked to health problems and skin irritation,” says Daniels.
The two also feel strongly about supporting the community and giving back. Each quarter they select an Oregon based non-profit to give 5% of their net profits. The charities they choose help people, pets, or planet earth, such as Girls Inc., The Oregon Humane Society, and Ecotrust.
The first recipient is The Dougy Center, which provides counseling to children, teens, and families mourning the loss of a loved one. Customers can also nominate charities to receive funds and shout outs.
